The Popes of Avignon, exhibition

Women in art.
Avignon proposes a major exhibition to highlight five women artists: Camille Claudel, Louise Bourgeois, Kiki Smith, Jana Sterbach and Berlinde de Bruyckere. This event serves to demonstrate the role of women in art through a series of works presented in two of Avignon's emblematic sites, namely the Palais des Papes and the Lambert Collection.
300 works have been selected to participate in this event, making it possible to retrace the course and the style of each artist, whatever their methods. The presentation explores how each work was brought to life… how these women artists, like Camille Claudel, struggled in the male dominated art world to become benchmarks, admired several decades after their deaths.
The sculptures on show will address these question and demonstrate the originality of each of these artists.
